When Lady Gaga walks the red carpet, you never really know what to expect, other than that it will be memorable. That was certainly the case tonight at the Critics Choice Awards, where the superstar took the plunge and rehearsed in honor of his film. Gucci House (for which she is nominated for Best Actress). After delivering an Old Hollywood fashion moment at the BAFTAs in London hours before, Gaga changed things up at the Critics Choice Awards – which were broadcast from both Los Angeles and London – with a bold new twist on the lace dress. . Although often seen as demure or classic, the style was decidedly sexier and more modern in Gaga’s hands.
Considering the movie she’s nominated for tonight, Gaga’s choice to wear Gucci on the walk and rehearse seemed fitting. Designer Alessandro Michele designed a unique creation to shine. Up top, she wore a black lace bolero that channeled a classic dress, but was more edgy. With the black bra completely open at the bust, it was a bold silhouette overall. The bottom of the dress, embellished with crystals and a long silk train, seemed more timeless. She then accessorized with diamond earrings and a bracelet from Tiffany & Co., leaning more into a Hollywood A-lister vibe.
Overall, it was a look that only Gaga herself could pull off. The dress was a hybrid of different ideas that on paper shouldn’t work together, but they did, and to dramatic effect. It’s simply the magic Gaga touch.
