Emma Raducanu plays “Ask Me Anything”

If you ever need to find the physical embodiment of the term “cool as a cucumber”, look no further than US Open winner Emma Raducanu MBE.

Earlier this week, the 19-year-old British number one tennis player made her Roland Garros debut in France, almost a year after she made history in New York, beating compatriot Leylah Fernandez to win the US Open. The moment saw the Bromley-raised teenager become the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title since Virginia Wade at the Wimbledon Championships in 1977. It also cemented her overnight rise to glory.

But, if you thought the pressure of high profile tennis matches and celebrity stardom might be too much for the United Kingdom cover the star, think again.

“Honestly, before the US Open, I didn’t feel like I had the nation’s hopes on my shoulders,” she said matter-of-factly during a game of Ask Me Anything with United Kingdom. “I was really enjoying it and taking all the support I got as fuel.”

‘Star [memory] for me is when I received the letter from the queen after the [US Open] final,” she continues. “I was just taken into a room and they said ‘Okay we have something for you’ and then I opened this file and it was a letter printed out and signed by Her Majesty.”

As for her “lucky charms” at the US Open last year, Raducanu – who is an ambassador for Tiffany & Co. – says she has several pieces from the famous jewelry company that have come in very handy for his matches.

“One of the things I took and carried with me every time in New York and after was special Tiffany pieces,” she notes. Highlighting the bracelet adorning her arm during her United Kingdom cover, she adds, “It’s actually the bracelet, and there’s the same thing in the ring and some pearl earrings too.” I was carrying [them] at first and they lasted three weeks, so since then they have been special and I like to carry them with me.

During her matches last year, the star was regularly seen wearing a bracelet, styled with a matching ring and earrings, as well as a large cross pendant and link bracelet.

When it comes to her style off the tennis court, Raducanu admits to being inspired by former United Kingdom star blanket and Eternals actress Gemma Chan. “I think she’s a great role model for me and I really like how she looks – [her looks are] always very well put together, but also effortless,” she admits.

Since winning the US Open, Raducanu has become a regular on the red carpet, having attended the 2021 Met Gala in New York last September and the James Bond premiere of ‘No Time To Die’ in London a few days later. “I loved the Dior dress I wore for the James Bond premiere. As it was in London, which is my hometown, it was really special,” she says.

When she’s not smashing services from the baseline in the field, Raducanu says she enjoys watching Taiwanese broadcasts and enjoys keeping up to date with the latest in motorsports and Formula 1.

La Mousse Foaming Cleanser OFF/ON

As for her go-to beauty product, it has to be Dior La Mousse Off/On Foaming Cleanser. “It’s a great cleanser to use and wipe off,” she notes. “When I train and sweat so much, it’s great after training to just cleanse my skin and I feel really refreshed.”
