Disneyland Introduces MagicBand+ Wearable Tech Devices – Here’s How They Work – Orange County Register

Disneyland and Disneyland California Adventure are known for their signature use of colored lights during their nightly shows. While the shows focus on beloved Disney characters projected above water with pulsating lights, guests can now enjoy a simultaneous light show wrapped around their wrists.

Guests near “World of Color” in Disney California Adventure Park, “Fantasmic!” at Disneyland, and other shows can experience synchronized lighting and vibration with these screens as one of the many features included with the MagicBand+ handheld device.

The MagicBand+, which until now has only been used at Walt Disney World Resort, will be available for purchase beginning Wednesday, October 19 for eligible Magic Key holders, cast members, and members of the Disney Vacation Club and October 26 for General Public.

The device resembles a watch with a strap that features various designs, including Disney-inspired themes such as princesses, the iconic castle, and Jack Skellington. Other designs include Marvel Spiderman and Iron Man characters. The device is rechargeable and includes a USB charging cable.

One of the most immersive experiences MagicBand+ offers is “Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters” which takes place at Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The activity is a scavenger hunt in which guests are awarded a bounty at a tasking post near the entrance to the Black Spire Outpost.

Bounty hunters will know they are headed in the right direction when their device activates with a flashing green light and vibrations. The device will flash red and vibrate if the guest takes the wrong direction. Once the guest has found their bounty, the device will flash purple and they can tap their MagicBand+ on their phone with the Disneyland app open to the “Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters” feature.

The app will then load up a scanner that you can tap to view a virtual projection of the bounty they’ve been awarded. Once the bounty is captured, guests can return to their duty station and receive Galactic Credits from the local Bounty Hunter Guild Master Raga Bua.

Other MagicBand+ features allow guests to connect their theme park tickets or Magic Key passes in the Play Disney Parks app. It can also be used to verify Lightning Lane entries with valid Lightning Lane entries and link photos captured by Disney PhotoPass photographers to their Disney accounts.

All settings, such as LED light colors, haptic vibrations, and gesture recognition, can be customized on the Disneyland app.

The MagicBand+ devices cost between $34.99 and $44.95 and will be available at disneyland.disney.go.com or at select Disneyland Resort locations, including its theme parks, hotels and the Downtown Disney District. MagicBand+ purchased from shopDisney.com or Walt Disney World Resort will also work at Disneyland Resort.
