Celebrities at the 2022 Met Gala wore Gilded Age corsets on the red carpet

Paloma Elsesser’s creamy white silk-satin corset added just the right amount of “Gilded Age” glamor to her 2022 Met Gala look.

The 30-year-old model wore a Coach ensemble consisting of a white corset with a long lace skirt. She added a silver choker to complete the look.

Elsesser stylist Carlos Nazario told Vogue’s Alice Newbold that the team took inspiration from the stiff and elaborate golden age underwear mixed with vintage 90s lace strappy dresses.

Speaking to Emma Chamberlain on behalf of Vogue on the red carpet, Elsesser said her corset was very tight, but she brought a modern twist to Gilded Age fashion: “It’s like the 1890s and 1990s,” she said.

Lizzo wore a form-fitting black corset under a voluminous black and gold Thom Brown coat.

Lizzo attended the Met Gala in a black and gold Thom Browne look, according to the singer’s Instagram post on Tuesday.

She wore a floor-length black corset dress with a stately black coat with gold embroidery on it as well as a gold choker, putting her own theatrical stamp on the trend.

In total, the opulent look took 22,000 hours and 13 different fabrics to come together, Insider’s Lauren Edmonds reported.

Meanwhile, Bella Hadid put her own spin on the corset trend in an all-black vampy outfit.

While Gigi opted for a deep red, Bella served up a darker version of the black leather corset, with corset drawstrings down the side – a Burberry designaccording to Elle Magazine.

She wore it with a sheer black skirt with a thigh-high slit, lace tights, heels and beaded anklets.

Nicola Coughlan leaned into her “Bridgerton” background by wearing a black corset under her pink feathered ball gown.

The 35-year-old “Bridgerton” actress opted for a black and pink Richard Quinn design with puffy sleeves, feather details and a cape for her first-ever Met Gala, according to an Instagram post from Coughlan on Tuesday.

While Coughlan’s corset detail was a more subtle take on the trend, it was a very dramatic look.

Billie Eilish wanted to be as “eco-friendly” as possible in her dreamy Gucci satin corset dress.

Billie Eilish stayed true to the gala’s ‘golden glamour’ theme in a Gucci dress made to measure from recycled materials, according to the luxury brand’s Instagram post of the look on Tuesday.

The dress consisted of a mint and gold corset dress with green lace sleeves, a lilac bodice, and a black choker.

Evan Mock said goodbye to traditional menswear and opted for a whimsical pale yellow corset look.

According to an Instagram Story by Evan Mock stylist Taylor Okata, the 25-year-old model and ‘Gossip Girl’ reboot actor gave a subtle nod to the corset trend in Head of State look personalized with Cartier jewelry.

Mock wore a white shirt with a ruffle at the neck and a buttermilk corset blazer with matching dress pants.

Maisie Williams looked almost unrecognizable in a sculpted ivory corset, which contrasted with the dark tones of the rest of her outfit.

Maisie Williams honored the 2022 Met Gala’s “golden glamour” theme in a Thom Brown ensemble, featuring an ivory-white corset and contrasting black maxi skirt, according to at W Magazine.

She told the publication that she was drawn to how the outfit blended masculinity and femininity.

The overall impression leaned towards softness rather than seduction, which highlighted the versatile nature of the corset.

Laura Harrier wore a glamorous dress with a traditional corset that was custom designed by H&M and produced in collaboration with a Haitian-American designer Victor Glemaudaccording to InStyle.

Adding to the Gilded Age inspiration of the dress, Harrier styled the silver and black dress with a pair of velvet gloves, pearl necklaces and slicked back hair.

Ashley Park may be known for her colorful persona on Netflix’s “Emily in Paris,” but she proved her real-life fashion could be just as fun when she appeared on the red carpet on Monday.

According to People Magazine, Park wore an outfit designed by Prabul Gurung dress, which consisted of a bright pink corseted bodice and train. Adding to the whimsical look was the black and white ostrich feather skirt, which perfectly epitomized the exuberance of Gilded Age glamour.

‘Dear Evan Hansen’ star Ben Platt wore a waisted corset with a white silk charmeuse tuxedo that was inspired by the Met Gala 2022 dress code.

The set was designed by Christian Cowan, who posted photos of Hansen on Instagram. In the captions, Cowan said the look was “inspired by the golden age when men’s formal wear was mostly white ties.”

As queer culture at that time was “subversive,” he added, Hansen’s Met Gala look was intentionally the opposite.
